Warehouse photo fun

A recent assignment for a global electronics distributor included some shots in their huge warehouse. I accomplished this shot with a single Nikon SB-800 strobe. It was "mounted" on a voice activated stand behind the shelves to camera right, aimed at the lift operator. I dragged the shutter in aperture priority @ 1/8 sec. f 5 for the overall exposure.

Annual report group shot

I'm working on the annual report for Western & Southern Financial again this year.

It's always a challenge to make group shots interesting, at least for me.

Starting the shoot early this year gave us the opportunity to shoot some of these groups outdoors. This one was shot on the steps of their HQ. I used my small strobes kit. One light high up on camera right just skimming the column and another strobe placed on a floor stand behind the men aimed at the wall.

Mobile Heath Unit

I was assigned to do a shoot for Onsite Health, a company that dispatches mobile units to many points in the country. My assignment was to cover health screenings for senior citizens. The unit features three exam rooms. I used my compact strobe kit ( Nikon SB800 and Sunpak 5500 units ) . The narrow hallway and small exam rooms would have made using standard mono-lights very difficult to position, not to mention the safety of those aboard. I attached a SB800 to a 6 ft. light stand bouncing the light off the white ceilings. This created nice soft wraparound light.

This single light also made the experience for the patients less of an intrusion into their privacy.

I shot Anthony , a contractor & VP for a concrete company , for a trade publication.

Luckily, a rainy morning turned into a glorious afternoon !

All I needed was some fill flash from camera right, one Nikon SB 800 on full power.

New promo piece

This is my latest promo piece.
It uses my new websites home page bridge image.
This has become my "brand" image. All of my printed material including invoices, estimates, business cards, and statements now carry this image.
I have also created pdf documents that can be downloaded from my site. One has general information on my work the other gives studio info.

I was in downtown Cincinnati near Proctor and Gamble's HQ shooting some executive portraits.
When I finished up , the morning clouds gave way to a great day, so I took a stroll with just my 18-70 on the D300.
This image is shot from under the arbor covered walkway on the P&G campus. They have super grounds keepers !

New flash based site

My new flash based site has been live for a few weeks now.
It features four portfolio sections: corporate, industrial, architecture, and "for kicks".
All the images can be viewed at full screen ( up to a 30" monitor ) if you like.
What I like best is that I can make any changes to the site myself, without a web master.
This means new images more often .... so I need to get out and shoot !
Summer can be slow, so my Kicks section may see more action for awhile ....

San Antonio Riverwalk

Last week I was on an Annual Report assignment in San Antonio.

I had a couple of hours before the first shot was scheduled.

I spent the morning photographing some of the Riverwalk area. It was a glorious spring morning and I was happy I had flown in the night before, giving me this opportunity.

Shops and cafe's dot the riverside, with arched foot bridges every few hundred feet.

So, here are a few images of my morning there.

Frigid photo shoot !

I just did a shoot for an aviation fuel company at our airport. With wind chill somewhere around zero degrees.

My gloves were off a large part of the time in order to adjust the camera properly.

The client wanted to show the re-fueling operation as well as a pilot with crew around a jet.

Here are a couple of their favorites. The sky had to be faked as we had heavy overcast sky.

Duke Energy shoot

I recently completed a two day shoot for Duke Energy at their new Envision Center facility.

Essentially, it's a warehouse that has been converted into a "small town" to showcase new technology for energy delivery.

Printing press shoot

Yesterday I completed a shoot for German printing press manufacturer ConPrinta.

This unit measures 100 ft. in length and is used to print packaging for products made by HP among others. I used two monolights in addition to the available light.

Laser makes for cool shoot

My latest assignment was shooting a metal cutting laser.

Mazak, the company who builds the machines needed some images of the laser in action.

I needed to use my Nikon's full 5 frames per second burst in order to capture the right moment.

This is a promo card I created to promote my studio work. I am known as a location shooter, so some clients don't know that I have a studio. I would like to book more jobs in the studio . I hope to book more lifestyle and beauty work !

Spina Bifida photo shoot

ThinkDesign based in D.C hired me to shoot for their client , The Spina Bifida Assoc.

We spent two days in Louisville,Ky. photographing Spina Bifida children at their annual convention.

Notre Dame ad campaign

I was hired by Chicago ad agency Hoffman York recently to produce images for their client, Notre Dame University.

The objective was to focus on Notre Dame's proximity to many larger cities.

Cincinnati and Indianapolis were chosen , I spent one day shooting in each city.

The architecture was converted to black & white with the university's "golden dome" blended as a reflection in post production.

I have a studio , but most of my work is done on location.

My specialty is photographing people in their environment.

Corporate settings, industrial locations, at home .... just about anywhere !
